Graffio (n.) [𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯] a scratch or scribble.

Alongside this album, I’ve been working on a series of paintings inspired by crumbling walls in the old cities of Italy. In them you see the decay of time, periods of history overlapping and graffiti — a mark of human expression. These paintings are similarly constructed with layer on top of layer followed by many points of deconstruction to reveal the levels below. The paint is applied without thought, a stream of consciousness and movement.

Similarly, I wanted to make music without thought, only expression. The process of the creation of this album was inspired by these paintings: quick movement, present thought, abstract “scratches”. However, the inspiration for the sounds comes from plants. Bubbling, gurgling, swampy textures. The sounds of growth and movement in nature. The song titles being in Latin is a reference to the scientific names of plants.
